Hyderabad: In what comes as one of the most embarrassing case investigations ever, some officials of the city police have been feeding a thief with loads and loads of bananas for the past three days in their efforts to recover a heavy gold chain that the mugger had swallowed.

A team of doctors and hospital staff of Gandhi Hospital are leaving no stone unturned to extract the valuable from the offender’s stomach. The staff members at the hospital in Secunderabad are also engaged in the unpleasant job of examining the faeces of the 22-year-old chain snatcher.

The police said the doctors at the government-run hospital were feeding bananas and other laxatives to the thief named Vikas to recover the chain. The trouble started when the police found the young thief moving under suspicious circumstances at the Secunderabad Railway Station.

Earlier in the day, a couple lodged a police complaint, claiming that a thief snatched the chain from a 55-year-old housewife when she had gone for an evening walk with her husband near Sitaphalmandi railway station on Saturday. When the police moved towards Vikas, he took the four-tola gold chain from his pocket and swallowed it fearing that he might be caught.

The police, who saw Vikas swallowing the chain, apprehended him and took him to Yashodha Hospital in Secunderabad. The immediate scanning report of the doctors proved that the chain was in his stomach. Then he was produced before the concerned court along with the scan report.

Following the directions of the magistrate, Vikas was admitted to Gandhi Hospital on Sunday. The police are waiting the natural extraction of the chain as the doctors at Gandhi Hospital opined that a surgery at this juncture would be risky. The police are eagerly waiting for Vikas excreta to retrieve the booty.
