Hyderabad: The Cyber Crime police on Monday arrested two persons from Kolkata for assisting an interstate gang in siphoning off the money from customers of a bank by hacking its website.In May 2015, officials of the Union Roadways, located in Secunderabad lodged a complaint stating that some unknown persons had hacked their internet banking website and transferred an amount of Rs 10.75 lakh from their Vijaya Bank account.


Investigation revealed that the money was transferred to the bank accounts of two persons hailing from Kolkata. One of the bank accounts received Rs 8.75 lakh, while the other account received Rs 2 lakh fraudulently from the complainant’s bank account. A police team then proceeded to Kolkata and apprehended Debashish Chaterjee, 35, owner of Mamatha Mayee Centre in Kolkata and Joydeep Datta, 32.


During interrogation, the accused confessed that one Joginder Sharma alias Jogi Raj of Kolkata collected the details of various current accounts including cheque books and debit cards of various persons in Kolkata by providing 3 per cent commission to the account holder and 10 per cent commission to mediator Joydeep Dutta.


“Joginder Sharma hacks the net banking accounts of customers and replaces the original SIM given by the customers for SMSs alerts in the bank with duplicate SIMs. He makes fraudulent transactions and transfers the amount to the accounts which he operates in Kolkata.


It is found that the account holders are selling their bank accounts by taking commission of 3 per cent of the money they received. The personal diary of Joydeep consisted details of as many as 43 bank accounts of various persons living in Kolkata,” said Detective department joint commissioner T Prabhakar Rao.
