Hyderabad: Telangana State and Andhra Pradesh State Women’s Commission on Wednesday welcomed the Madras High Court suggestion that child rapists should be “castrated.

"It is the best solution. I am very happy that one of the learned judges of the Madras High Court has expressed that castration is the best solution for the rapists of minor girls. Not now, some 15 years ago at several meetings I expressed the same opinion,” said Women’s Commission Chairperson Tripurana Venkataratnam at a media conference here.

"Because some people say things like human rights (for culprits of such offences), but even the women and minors too have got human rights. These sorts of methods are deterrent punishments. So castration is the best solution for the rapists," Venkataratnam felt. Asked if she looked forward to the government making castration as an additional punishment, she said, "I doubt.

Because you know these human rights activists say no and people like us say yes. So always a clash will be there. Let us wait and see. That's the opinion expressed by the judge."
