Hyderabad: Two snatchers from city, responsible for the death of a woman at Osmania University on July 17 this year, were arrested by the East Zone Task Force police on Tuesday. The police recovered about 800 grams of gold ornaments from the accused persons.

The accused Habeeb Abbas alias Shaik Faizan, 35 and his brother Habeeb Hasan alias Shadan Hussain Shaik, 45, residents of the city, were earlier arrested by the police for their involvement in over 200 property offences including thefts and chain-snatchings, said city police commissioner M Mahender Reddy.

The commissioner added that they have been repeatedly committing offences for the past 20 years. After Falaknuma police opened history sheets against them, they migrated to Aurangabad.

“In the last one year, they committed 25 offences. They also snatched the gold chain worn by a woman who was on a bike along with her son at Osmania University.

Unfortunately, the woman P Sumitra, died after suffering head injuries in the incident,” he said.

“More property has to be recovered from the snatchers and the receiver of the stolen gold Imran Usman Shaik of Aurangabad is also yet to be arrested. These two will be booked under PD Act,” the commissioner said.
