342 jailed for drunken driving

As many as 342 motorists in Hyderabad have been imprisoned by the third and fourth Metropolitan Magistrate Courts for drunken driving on Friday.
Hyderabad: As many as 342 motorists in Hyderabad have been imprisoned by the third and fourth Metropolitan Magistrate Courts for drunken driving on Friday.

During the enforcement drives against drunken driving under 17 traffic police station limits in Hyderabad Commissionerate, the police have booked 707 cases against the drivers. They were all counseled at Traffic Training Institutes in Begumpet and Goshamahal and were produced in the courts, which imprisoned 342 people and imposed penalty of Rs 2,000 for all the accused.
All of them have been imprisoned for a period ranging from one to 15 days as per the severity of the case. Additional Commissioner (Traffic) Jitender explained that since January this year, as many as 13,892 persons were caught during the enforcement drive of which 2,546 drunken drivers have been imprisoned.
