Hyderabad: Two persons from Bidar in Karnataka involved in 189 chain snatching offences have been arrested by the Anti-Chain snatching teams of Cyberabad. Gold ornaments worth Rs 70 lakh were recovered from the accused.

According to police, Taqi Ali, 31, who runs a snooker point and Salman Ali, 32, spectacles seller from Bidar were arrested by the ACS teams. However, the hunt is on to nab the other absconding gang members Asadulla Abu Irani alias Chullalu, Radhe, Hussain, Nazar, Sikinder, Gulam Abbad and Mehdi.

During a press meet at his office on Tuesday, Cyberabad police commissioner C V Anand said Taqi, who worked as a bouncer earlier, formed separate gangs to snatch gold chains in 2008. He was arrested in Bangalore in 2012. Keeping regular contact with his gang members, he used to direct them to take help of locals to arrange bikes. Taqi lands in Hyderabad in flights to commit chain snatchings and leaves the city. Most of his gang members were brothers and relatives. They committed 121 chain snatchings in 2015 in Cyberabad and 68 snatchings in the past.

“The ACS team tracked the mobile number of the accused after a mobile phone was recovered in a snatching offence. A meeting was held by Irani gangs at Ambe Valley in Maharashtra, where they decided to not commit offences in Cyberabad, Hyderabad and also in Telangana,” the commissioner said adding that 298 cases of 380 chain snatchings reported this year were detected.
