Hyderabad: A 41-year-old housewife slit the throats of her two minor daughters with broken glass after suspecting that her husband was molesting the elder daughter. Rajini Chutke, wife of Vinay Chutke, broke a glass bottle and slit the throats of her two daughters aged eight and three at their house in Teacher’s Colony under the jurisdiction of Tukaramgate police station on Wednesday night.

The girls’ father found them unconscious and lying in a pool of blood in the bedroom and bathroom. Vinay, who came home at 9.30 pm from his gift shop did not find his wife home, but noticed the bodies of his daughters and was shocked. He informed the police about the incident, said Gopalpuram ACP K Shiva Kumar.

The woman went to Tank Bund to wash her hands and legs in Hussain Sagar Lake. She walked back to her house and told her husband about the killing. Later, she surrendered before police and claimed that she is relieved from the stress that her husband would not further exploit her daughters, the police said.

“After killing her daughters, Rajini went to Tank Bund and washed her hands and legs and then she surrendered before the police. During questioning, Rajini said she was suspecting sexual exploitation of her elder daughter by her husband as the girl was afraid of going near him,” the police said.

She told police that for the past six months, Vinay’s behaviour towards his daughters was unusual and her elder daughter complained of exploitation by a person. Preliminary investigation revealed no evidence in the allegations against Vinay, and Rajini also said she never witnessed her husband resorting to such exploitation.

North Zone DCP N Prakash Reddy said Vinay was let off after questioning as no concrete evidence was found against him and the woman has been arrested under section 302 of IPC and sent to judicial remand. The body of the elder girl was sent for medical examination.

The bodies of both the girls were handed over to their family members after the post mortem, the police said.Vinay and Rajini, hailing from Maharashtra, migrated to Hyderabad about a year ago. Vinay was running a gift shop at Begumpet, while Rajini is a housewife.
