Hyderabad: City police arrested a man from Kerala on charges of helping Pakistan based fraudsters who had been duping gullible people in the name of Airtel lottery. The man has been identified as Sulaiman Kutty of Palakkad district in Kerala. Police recovered as many as 124 debit cards and 107 bank passbooks from the accused.

Deputy Commissioner of Police, Detective Department, Avinash Mohanty said that the fraudsters made calls from Pakistan to the victims and lure them by saying they have won Airtel lucky draw worth Rs 25 lakh.

The callers would then direct the victims to pay some processing fee, income tax over the prize money and fee for getting RBI approval for paying the prize money. Sulaiman reportedly has been providing bank accounts to the fraudsters who persuade their victims to deposit or transfer money online. Later Sulaiman would withdraw and hand over the money to one Nasir, an agent of Pakistan based fraudsters. Sulaiman would get a 10 per cent share of the amount deposited by each victim, police said.

Based on the complaint of Sudhamani, a staff nurse working at Asian Institute of Gastroenterology at Panjagutta who received a call in November last year a case was registered. The caller asked the victim to deposit Rs 8000 for changing pin code which was wrongly entered in order to claim the money she won .

Later she was directed to pay Rs 18,200 as income tax and it went on until the victim realised after paying Rs 5.34 lakh in various installments that she had been cheated.
