Nalgonda: Due to the severe drought condition, steep decline in groundwater levels and heat wave, people in Nalgonda district, known for its fluoride problem, are facing hardship in finding work. The farmers are migrating to greener pastures looking for alternative means of livelihood and for saving their cattle.
- Several villages getting vacated
- Almost all houses found locked
- People migrating, while elderly persons staying back
Almost all houses in many villages are found locked with the young people migrating to the Nagarjunasagar ayacut areas in search for work, while only the old people staying back. There is no change in the living conditions of the people in the district even after a change of guard at the helm. They continue to lead miserable lives.
Added to their misery is lack of work under the MGNREGS. With the shrinking groundwater levels fodder for cattle is hard to be found. The people affected by pathetic living conditions appealed to the State government to initiate action to check the migration of villagers by coming out with clear-cut plans.
