In the season of big-ticket astronomical announcements which includes water on Mars and blue skies on Pluto, here comes another mind-boggling one. Come mid-November and the entire earth would be plunged into darkness.

Well, not really. To everybody's relief, the latter is just a rumour doing rounds on the social media thanks to several websites which are running reports to that effect, even attributing it to NASA.

The rumours trace back to an article on website NewsWatch33.com that reads in part — NASA has confirmed that the Earth will experience 15 days of total darkness between November 15 and November 29. The event, according to NASA, has not occurred in over 1 million years.
It may be noted that it not for the first time that such rumours are doing the rounds. The supposed date of darkness in 2014 (then only for 6 days) was back in December 2014. A later updated version claimed the darkness would occur in June 2015.
Quoting officials, the website had said, the event, known as “November Black Out”, will be caused by another astronomical event between Venus and Jupiter. Moreover, the whole phenomenon was explained in a highly scientific way.
NSA, Angkasa too has denied any such happening. “A check on the website of the Nasa found that the phenomenon where Jupiter appears to be very close to Venus in the sky, also known as the ‘Conjunction’, is normal.
