With Assam all set to go for the final phase of polls in the state, in a last minute overdrive to woo the voters in their respective constituencies which has made them a laughing stock in front of the people of Assam.

As a last minute attempt to catch the sympathy of the voters from the Nagaon Lok Sabha constituency, from where she is contesting as an independent candidate, Selima Sultana, promised that if voted to power, she will ensure that everytime a rhino is poached in the state, the state environment and forest minister will be hanged.

On being asked, if she wins and after that if a rhino is poached at Kaziranga, will she ensure action against present environment and forest minister Rakibul Hussain, she said that, he will be hanged.

Kamal Uddin, another independent candidate from the Barpeta Lok Sabha constituency has also left no stone unturned to make absurd promises.

In his election manifesto he makes several promises which includes—building an international airport at Barpeta town, getting all the unmarried boys and girls in the constituency married, providing salaries to all the lawyers in the constituency, setting up of international standard gym in every assembly constituencies within the Barpeta Lok sabha constituency, raising the salary of all the government officials by at-least 50%, raising the old age pension to Rs 10,000.

However, the promise which stands nowhere to these is at a different level. He has mentioned in his manifesto that he is unmarried, and has promised that if he wins he will marry, and has also invited people to his marriage.

Candidates put up by political parties are not far behind.

Congress candidate from the Dhubri Lok sabha seat, Wazed Ali Choudhury in several public rallies have said that it was former Indian Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi who had invented computers, lap top computers and also mobile phones.

He had asked people to vote for congress saying the inventions by the former prime minister has helped everyone.
