A ‘fullscale mock emergency exercise (aircraft crash at airport)’ was carried out at the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport on Tuesday.

As per the DGCA guidelines, such drills should be carried once in two years to test the airport’s emergency preparedness and to familiarise all agencies with their responsibilities in an emergency. Agencies like CISF, police, fire dept, disaster response team, Apollo Hospitals, Airports Authority of India (AAI), Bureau of Civil Aviation Security of India (BCAS), immigration and customs department, British Airways (partner airline in the mock exercise) and other concerned departments of the airport participated in the exercise.

The mock emergency exercise which started with complete safety measures at 1.40 pm concluded by 3.30 pm successfully without any kind of inconvenience to normal airport operations.
