The Hyderabad Cricket Association (HCA), which had a largely forgettable season last time, is all set to infuse a new ‘set of dynamism’ with the inclusion of proven materials and seasoned campaigners who have ‘been there and done that’. In line with the policy being employed by high-profile associations and even Team India, HCA has ‘employed’ M V Narasimha Rao, aka Bobjee, as the Central Academy director for the coming season.

Other big names included alongside the former Test player, who was also the captain of Hyderabad that last won the Ranji Trophy, will be Syed Abid Ali (a key member of Ajit Wadekar’s epoch-making team) as the bowling coach, yesteryear’s dour batsman Vijay Mohanraj and Mahinder Kumar, who will be batting consultants. Abid Ali has had a fruitful stint as coach of the Andhra cricket team some years back.

This was stated by Arshad Ayub and K John Manoj, President and Secretary of HCA, at a media interaction to announce the League season, which will commence across various grounds on Tuesday. Ayub said that the RJICS, Gymkhana, and ground at Yousufguda, Old City, Madhapur and Madinaguda have been identified as centres for excellence where local talent would be scouted and provided exclusive coaching.

Stating that they were yet to decide on selectors and coaches as the term of the incumbent panels were not yet over. He said that there was no point in disturbing the established panel. In a major shift and attempting to clear several doubts that lingered in the earlier season, Ayub said that although there was no restriction on using outstation players in local league, they would not be considered for inclusion in the Hyderabad Ranji squad unless they produce an NOC or domicile certificate.

Meanwhile, the Senior Zonals will be played between August 15 and 30 while the Moin-Ud-Dowla Gold Cup is slated to be held from September 1 to 15. HCA administrators remain hopeful that the team’s fortunes will also change and they would be elevated to the Elite category from the Plate division where they have been rotting for the past five to six years.
