Science fiction, a fascinating genre in which, you can stretch your imagination with ideas that are only possible in your creative mind.

As kids, when technology was more than a metal lensed tube, we looked ahead and thought of a big sci-fi future and used technological advances to realise our dreams and nightmares.

The robots and trips in the vicinity in hovercars haven’t yet arrived, but technology has been extremely fruitful for the big-screen science fiction. The genre is as enormous as the galaxy.

We have picked a list of sci-fi movies and series you absolutely must see on Netflix, it might exclude your favourite ones, but this smoothie of sci-fi films and series is worth a watch.

Stranger Things
A love letter to the ’80s classics that captivated a generation, ‘Stranger Things’ is set in 1983 Indiana, where a young boy vanishes into thin air.

As friends, family and local police search for answers, they are drawn into an extraordinary mystery involving top-secret government experiments, terrifying supernatural forces and one very strange little girl.

Sense 8
‘Sense8’ is centred on eight characters that live in different cities around the world who experience a violent vision, and soon find themselves mentally connected by this experience.

They are suddenly able to see and talk to each other as though they were in the same place, and have access to each other's deepest secrets.

Not only must these eight adapt to this new ability and to each other, they must figure out what happened and why and what it means for the future of humanity, while being hunted by an organization out to capture, kill or vivisect them.

District 9
In 1982, a massive star ship bearing a bedraggled alien population, nicknamed "The Prawns," appeared over Johannesburg, South Africa. Twenty-eight years later, the initial welcome by the human population has faded.

The refugee camp where the aliens were located has deteriorated into a militarised ghetto called District 9, where they are confined and exploited in squalor.

Gravity (Movie)
‘Gravity’ is a 2013 Oscar-winning British-American science fiction film co-written, co-edited, produced and directed by Alfonso Cuarón.

It stars Sandra Bullock and George Clooney as astronauts who are stranded in space after the mid-orbit destruction of their space shuttle, and their subsequent attempt to return to Earth.

Inception
Inception is a 2010 science fiction heist thriller film written, co-produced, and directed by Christopher Nolan, and co-produced by Emma Thomas.

The film stars Leonardo DiCaprio as a professional thief who steals information by infiltrating the subconscious, and is offered a chance to have his criminal history erased as payment for a task seemingly-impossible: "inception", the implantation of another person's idea into a target's subconscious.
