Hyderabad: Recognising the importance of inculcating digital literacy from a young age, Samsung India on Wednesday showcased the success of its flagship Samsung Smart Class initiative at Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya, Gachibowli.
The company had launched the Samsung Smart Class programme in collaboration with Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya schools, a system of alternate schools under the Ministry of Human Resource Development. The programme aims to bridge the digital gap between rural and urban India and provide equal opportunities for quality education to children from all backgrounds.
Every Samsung Smart Class is equipped with an interactive Samsung Smartboard, Samsung laptops/tablet, a printer, Wi-Fi connectivity and power backup. Samsung Smart Class supplements regular lessons in mathematics, science and social science to explain concepts in an engaging and interactive manner. Teachers are trained on using the equipment effectively to make lessons come alive.
“The introduction of Samsung Smart Class has resulted in marked improvement in academic performance of students at Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya, Rangareddy district. The students are able to learn better through visual learning aids at the Smart Class and are more engaged.
More students are now participating in extra-curricular activities, highlighting improvement in their level of confidence. Teachers are happy and satisfied with the rising academic standard of students,” said Mr. D Rajeswara Rao, Principal, Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya, Gachibowli, Rangareddy district.
Since 2013, Samsung has set up its Samsung Smart Class in over 373 Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya schools across the length and breadth of India benefitting over 2 lakh students, enabling them easy access to digitally interactive “smart” learning opportunities. In this period, over 7,400 teachers have been trained on how to use interactive technology to teach.
The results have started to show now with several students from these schools now qualifying for IITs and NITs across the country. Samsung recently highlighted one such success story through a digital and television campaign #SapneHueBade, of a boy from Maharashtra, Sadanand Ugale, who secured a study trip to Australia from Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya in Aurangabad, Maharashtra.
“We are elated with the phenomenal success of our flagship citizen program in India. Samsung Smart Class initiative has helped over 2 lakh children across the nation become digitally literate.
This initiative is closely tied with India’s development agenda, and implemented in close partnership with government departments to ensure wider reach and impact among the less-privileged children,” said Deepak Bhardwaj, Head of CSR at Samsung India.
