The Secunderabad Cantonment Board (SCB) recovered property tax of Rs 28 crore as on March 31, against the set target of Rs 26 crore. Tax superintendent Akbar Ali Khan said, “Last year the SCB recovered Rs 17 crore and broke previous year’s records. This year, we set a target of Rs 26 crore and recovered Rs 28 crore. We have constituted special squads consisting of two tax superintendents, two tax inspectors, six tax collectors, with additional staff consisting totaling 50 members with required infrastructure to recover tax before the set date.”

“There are over 80,000 households in the cantonment area, of which 50 per cent were not paying up due to various reasons,” Akbar added. SCB CEO Sujatha Gupta said, “Our main aim is to increase the income from the existing resources to come out of the financial troubles the SCB has been facing for the last few decades. We issued 23,200 notices on revision of the property assessment to households and also targeted high value defaulters.”
