Once you enter the studio of Sudhakar Chippa – Banyan Hearts Artist's Residency on Kismatpur Rock Church Road, one will first notice the banyan tree and secondly, the house on the tree made by Wangdi Sherpa at the workshop ‘Drawing Space’, which took place recently.

The workshop was an effort to re-approach the concept of drawing in physical space by making expressions and works of art in the form of installations, dialogues, performances and interactivities.

“The workshop is proposed to approach drawing like the act of imagination, an act of performance, an act of interaction with space, an act of dialogue in the process of making an expression,” says Sudhakar Chippa.

One is doing everything for money and you can pluck money from Venkat’s ‘Money Plant’, which is a plant of cactus breed with real money in the place of leaves. “It is aimed to see the concept of drawing in a wider framework, not limiting it to the activity of making an image on the paper.

This wider approach enables one to engage with drawing as a process to interact with actual physical space through certain site specific and performative gestures rather than limiting oneself to the space of the paper,” explains Sudhakar. The participants at the workshop included artists from India and Wisconsin, USA.
