• Power supply has been cut for non-payment of Rs 90,000 dues

The Sardar Vallabhbhai Library was inaugurated by Neelam Sanjeeva Reddy, then Lok Sabha Speaker in the year 1967. From then it has all the dailies, weeklies and monthly magazines. Besides this the library is famous for its collection of books on history. It has a community hall attached to it but lack of maintenance by the GHMC has made it weak and shabby structure.

There are about 4000 books in the library currently. Lack of maintenance has resulted in slow diminishing of books and in the library. Some books were reportedly stolen from the library. The department concerned is not taking any measures to take care of the books and the structure at all. Ironically, the library does not have a power supply now following the Rs 90,000 dues of power bill.

Earlier, the library used to be opened every morning and in the evening, but now it is opened only in the morning and afternoon. The 50-year-old library has the furniture arranged half a century ago. The windows, tables, chairs and doors in the library are not in a condition to be used. In this backdrop, locals have demanded the authorities to take up the repair works and restore the library in the interest of public.

Rathode from Mustaidpura said that he used to visit library when he was a school kid and it used to be wonderful experience for children back then. He expressed his sorrow over the bad condition of the library now.

Another person from the area Shamsuddin said that government talks about the renovation and restoration of heritage in city but it was neglecting the educational heritage here.
