Serilingampally: A private school, Taranagar Vidya Niketan, here, is allegedly forcing its students to become labourers, making them carry cement bricks and sand for its own construction activities. Students, mostly belonging to middle class families, residing in Lingampally, Chandanagar, Papireddy Colony virtually become coolies after paying fee in thousands. Their parents send their children to the school to get good education so as to turn to become useful citizens.

The students are made to work in a huge shed adjacent to the school. On Friday the management selected some students to carry bricks and sand for its construction in the adjacent vacant land, instead of deploying labourers. Residents of adjoining areas, while speaking to The Hans India, expressed distress over the development, wondering who would be responsible if any harm is caused to the students.

When questioned about the issue, the school chairman Ramachary, tried to justify its action, stating ‘what is wrong in utilising the students for the work for some time as the shed is intended for their use’. However, he sent the students away, closed the shed door and left.Ramachary had in the past rented out the school sheds for locating dairy farms and sale of coolers. He is erecting the shed at the same spot. The residents while pointing out the ‘unauthorised’ construction of the shed by deploying students and renting it, assert that ‘it is not right’. They want officials concerned to take action against the Vidya Niketan management.
