Moinabad: A ‘Varuna Japam’ was performed at the reputed Chilukuri Balaji Temple seeking rains amidst Vedic scholars chanting of hymns here on Thursday. Main priest of the temple Rangarajan supervised the performance of the event.

The farmers raised crops soon after the incidence of rains, after a long lull, but the crops started withering away for want of follow-up rains. To raise the crops, the farmers resorted to borrowing funds from others. The cattle encountering difficulties for want of water to quench its thirst.

Objective of the japam is to invoke the Rain God for bountiful rains so that the people of the state will remain happy. Chilukuru Balaji temple main priest Rangarajan said that after performing the Japa, water from Gandipet tank has been brought and Lord Balaji and Lord Varuna were worshipped with the water. The devotees and farmers who were witness to the Varuna Japam circumambulated the temple twice towards the end of the event.
