LB Nagar: There is a well known proverb in Telugu ‘Subbi Pelli – Venki Chavukochindi’ roughly translated, it means someone’s marriage is making the life hell for others. This could well sum up the state of affairs in one of the fastest developing areas in the city. The plight of the residents living in and around the numerous function halls that have sprung up is making life hell. What is more many have come up with permissions say people who are in the know of things.
Function halls mushroomed in main roads of LB Nagar, Champapet, Karmanghat and Nagole. The owners of the function halls or banquet halls are doing business without sufficient parking space. One of the inconveniences caused is due to lack of parking area. Each of the hall’s occupancy capacity almost equals to mini-stadium. People with heavy purses prefer to celebrate their functions as these halls are located beside the main roads. Accordingly, most of the visitors reach the venue by four wheelers to attend the functions.
As there is no sufficient parking space in the hall, they park their vehicles in by lanes of the colonies under the direction of the security people of the hall. As the roads are such a way that, only one four wheeler will move in one go. At the time of functions, colony residents are unable to move out of their houses. The roads are occupied with visitors’ vehicles. One of the residents of Saraswathi Nagar Colony, Krishnamachari blamed officials on giving permissions to function halls without parking space.
There are some instances, where colony residents quarrel with visitors as well as function hall authorities. Resident of Hanuman Nagar Colony, Venakata Ramana Reddy alleged that Kotha Kapu Yadava Reddy Garden at Karmanghat Junction, Manda Yadava Reddy Garden and Minerva Function hall don’t have parking space.
It leads to the visitors to park their vehicles on service roads, he lamented. Another resident Ravi Kumar alleged that the function halls create traffic problems and also sound pollution due to crackers usage in midnight hours. They are demanding severe action against them. When contacted, GHMC officials said that they are not aware of permissions given to the function halls as they were issued long back.
