Vandalism raised its ugly head on Thursday as activists ransacked a city-based college for defying their bandh call. The Akhila Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) had called for a statewide bandh of all colleges on January 8 demanding the Telangana government to immediately release scholarships and reimbursement of fee to eligible students.

Vandalism raised its ugly head on Thursday as activists ransacked a city-based college for defying their bandh call. The Akhila Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) had called for a statewide bandh of all colleges on January 8 demanding the Telangana government to immediately release scholarships and reimbursement of fee to eligible students. However, Sreenidhi Institute of Science and Technology in Ghatkesar was functioning on Thursday owing to examinations.

A group of 25 ABVP activists rushed to the college campus, entered the administrative block and broke the glass panes of notice boards and threw asunder furniture in several rooms. College authorities tried to appease the crowd by inviting them for talks but the activists paid no heed to their requests.

“The faculty then decided to cancel the examinations and tried to convey the message to the activists but instead of leaving the campus, they went around the campus shouting slogans besides damaging glass panes,” said a senior faculty member. Luckily, cops who were on patrol noticed the hullabaloo and detained the activists. Meanwhile, it was learnt that the students union had deflated college buses in Uppal, which were commuting students to the college.
