veg2Karimnagar: Retail traders of Karimnagar Old Vegetable Market and farmers staged a protest over the alleged harassment by traffic police and wholesale traders at the Collectorate here on Monday. The protesters alleged that traffic police, commission agents and wholesale traders were obstructing their business. They demanded action against those creating troubles to the vegetable vendors.

Wholesale and retail traders have been selling vegetables in the market for the past several years. The retail traders alleged that wholesale traders were pressurizing them to sell vegetables in Rythu Bazar on the pretext that retail trade is adversely affecting their business. 'Citing heavy rush in the market, traffic police were threatening us to evict,' they lamented.

The vendors sought the intervention of District Collector in resolving the problem and submitted a petition in this regard. They said that wholesale traders and commission agents were conspiring to shift them from the market and warned that protests would be intensified if the issue is not resolved.
