Dr Keshavulu said parents should not think that their children alone were great when compared to others as this would make children move away from reality and they start living in  make believe world.

Nizamabad: Noted neuro-psychiatrist Dr Keshavulu said that there must be an attitudinal change among parents towards their children. Participating in a seminar on ‘Indifferent parents-Spoilt Children’ at Khaleelwada held under the aegis of the Mano Vignana Vedika in the town on Wednesday, he said that most the parents of the present generation think that their children should not be deprived of anything and they should get all the best things in life even if it was beyond their means. This was not a correct attitude, he added.

Dr Keshavulu said parents should not think that their children alone were great when compared to others as this would make children move away from reality and they start living in make believe world.

He said that children were adversely affected by the disintegration of the joint family system and the rise of nuclear families.

Earlier, children would find lot of emotional solace in the company of grandparents, uncles and aunts but not any more in the fast lives. Now, both the mother and father go out to work leaving the children in the care of nurseries and aayahas, he lamented.

Dr Keshavulu urged the parents to spend quality time with their children to make them emotionally stable. He said that the children should get all the affection and care so that they do not stray from the right path when they grow up.

Emotionally disturbed children may grow up into anti-social elements, he warned. In that case, the entire society would be affected adversely, he added.

He said children should be taught to face adversaries in life boldly and they should be able to adapt to difficulties as life was not a bed of roses. A large number of people were present on the occasion.
