Nalgonda: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Kisan Morcha State president Goli Madhusudhan Reddy urged the State government to implement Prime Minister Fasal Yojana Scheme (PMFBY) effectively for the benefit of farmers.

Speaking at a media conference here on Wednesday, Reddy said farmers have been facing problems in getting crop loans and benefits of crop insurance due to the lackadaisical attitude of the State government.

The decision of the State government to pay crop loans in a phased manner has resulted in banks denying fresh loans to ryots, he felt.

He urged the State government to immediately waive the remaining crop loans and help farmers’ secure fresh loans for Rabi. Stating that the Centre has released Rs 971 crore drought relief fund to the State, the BJP leader alleged that the State government has diverted all the funds to Mission Kakatiya and Bathukamma celebrations. “This exposes the anti-farmer attitude of the State government,” he added.

Reminding that the Centre has taken up PMFBY to provide insurance coverage to the crops, he pointed out that only 3.3 lakh farmers were enrolled for the scheme due to the negligence of the State government. He pointed that last date for payment of premium for the facility for Rabi season was December 31.

BJP district president Nookala Narsimha Reddy informed that huge number of farmers would be mobilised from the district for the protest demonstration at Hyderabad on December 23 on farmers’ issues.

It would help in mounting pressure on the State government to solve the issues of farmers, he said.BJP leaders Shyam Sunder, Veerelli Chandrasekhar and others attended the press conference.
