Gudivada (Krishna): Launching a broadside against local MLA Kodali Nani, who switched his loyalties to YSR Congress Party recently, Telugu Desam Party (TDP) Gudivada constituency in-charge Raavi Venkateswara Rao called upon the party cadre to teach a fitting lesson to defectors.
Addressing a huge gathering of party activists here on Wednesday, he said that it was right time for the cadre to take on the `selfish' political leaders who had breached the trust of people. Indirectly referring to Nani, the likely TD contender in next elections, he said that people should exercise their vote as weapon to destroy the forces of betrayal for the sin of ignoring their welfare.
The treacherous political elements should be properly punished for leaving the people in the lurch. The leaders who secure political posts with people's support should deserve humiliating defeat when they acted against the wishes of voters, he said.
Raavi said that though some leaders had betrayed the party in Gudivada, the loyal activists had been successful in protecting the interests of the party for a few decades. He appreciated the activists of the town for extending their support to the party at times of crisis. The activists are real asset to the TDP.
The cadres should be aware of the cunning tactics of selfish forces, he warned. TDP State leader Dr CL Venkatrao, in his address, came down heavily on the Congress regime led by the former Chief Minister Dr YS Rajasekhara Reddy for ``looting people and making YSR Congress Party leader Jagan rich overnight.''
The State was lagging behind on all fronts. Both the Congress and the YSR Cogress Party should be blamed for the present situation. The people should give a verdict to end the political future of such `corrupt' leaders, he said. Party local leaders L Prasada Rao, B Nageswara Rao, K Venkateswara Rao, M Vijayalakshmi, Shaik Johnny and others were present. Women formed majority at the gathering.
