Many regions in the World have been in turmoil because of the politics of separation. The countries from their composite forms were separated causing anguish and, in most cases bloodshed. Indian sub-continent was one such painful example.
It was divided in 1947 and many remember the resultant hatred, agony and bloodshed. Partition cast a shadow and the effect is being felt even today- viz.the status of Kashmir. The most serious political problem was cutting up of Middle East to create the Zionist state of Israel which created a war-like situation and refuses to go away.
After India got Independence, the States Reorganisation process saw the country being divided on the basis of language. The original Madras Presidency state yielded four states, including Andhra, formed after the death of Potti Sriramulu,a freedom fighter. Maharashtra and Gujarat was split from Bombay Presidency and no one could easily forget the tussle over the inclusion of Bombay in Maharashtra. Kerala and Karnataka fought over Kasargod.
While Mumbai emerged and glorified as Financial Capital of India, the nearby region of Vidharba became notorious for a large number of farmers' suicide caused by unbalanced regional development. India, a nation, as a huge and diverse had to solve these problems. The Telangana dream has been realized after years of unrest and agitations and hopefully it will come into existence in 2014. As expected, Andhra people are agitating over the loss of Telangana and, in particular, Hyderabad.
Today, democracy is sliding towards the state of anarchy in this region. The working of state government has been stopped. The most unreasonable demand of leaving jobs, packing up and returning to their native home towns, even before the formation of the state, could not have come at a worse time.
The people of Telangana who had been denied their due in educational institutions, government jobs, irrigation, industrial developments and so on ,of course, will be compensated and given their due share. It is not good to threaten to throw the Andhra people out of their jobs and homes in Hyderabad as this is against the fundamental right of Indian Constitution which states that "any person can settle in any part of the country".
This sort of confrontation is harmful to unity and integrity of both states. The regional political parties should accept the state of Telangana, which is inevitable. Andhra Pradesh has enough resources to build a new capital on its own. Mutual understanding and cooperation will yield peace, harmony and progress. Let Peace rule this world.
