Hyderabad: A big task lies ahead for the Telangana State BJP unit to galvanise the national leadership in view of ‘Give it up’ campaign going at a snail’s pace even in States where BJP is in power. Although Prime Minister Narendra Modi has given a call for the better-off in the society to forego their gas subsidy which could be then diverted to poor families, the people in the BJP-ruled States like Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Rajasthan, etc. are yet to respond in a big way.

Even the situation is not promising in States like Andhra Pradesh, Punjab and Jammu and Kashmir where BJP allies are in power. According to countrywide figures of Indane customers who gave up their subsidy until the beginning of this week, not a single BJP-ruled State found place in the top three places.

Uttar Pradesh (1.2 lakh), Delhi (72,778) and Karnataka (43,158) occupy the first three positions respectively. The BJP-ruled Maharashtra is at fourth place with 41,732 customers foregoing gas subsidy. The fifth place is occupied by Bihar, another non-BJP ruled State.

Only 18,313 customers gave their consent to give subsidy in Gujarat, which is considered one of the better developed States in the country. The other States, where BJP is in power- Madhya Pradesh (13th), Chhattisgarh (16th), Jharkhand (18th) and Goa (33rd), have to work hard to increase the numbers in the coming days. Even the three states - Andhra Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir and Punjab - where the allied partners of the saffron party formed governments did not find a place in the top 10 list. When The Hans India brought the issue to the notice of a senior BJP leader, he stated that the onus was on oil companies.
