Adilabad: Fine rice paddy farmers are facing untold hardship in selling their produce after toiling for long, as there are no takers.
Various types of paddy are being raised by the farmers in the district on a stretch of 20,000 acres land.
Although there has been a good yield this year, thanks to the heavy rains, the farmers are struggling to sell their paddy, as the IKP centres are showing interest in only purchasing ‘doddu’ variety, and not the fine rice.
Farmers had incurred high expenditure in raising fine rice paddy which also consumes more time. But the government has not announced any support price for the commodity.
Farmers are suffering heavy losses as they are being forced to sell fine rice at the MSP being offered for the ‘doddu’ variety.Farmers, like Chinna Reddy and Shankaramma, are demanding MSP for fine rice , as was available in the past. They told The Hans India that the government should immediately respond to the demand for MSP for the fine rice variety.
