In a stunning comeback, Hyderabad roared its way into Ranji Trophy contention, thanks to the combined efforts of Pragyan Ojha and Ashish Reddy who helped the host gain 36 runs first innings lead against Andhra at the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium here on Tuesday.
Resuming the day at an optimistic looking 85 for the loss of one wicket, the visitors appeared set for a good lead. However, they did not reckon with the qualitative combating abilities of Ojha, who mesmerized the batsmen to return with 3/59.
Playing the perfect accomplice in the demolition job was Ashish Reddy who scalped 3/49 to have Andhra bowled out after they could add exactly 100 runs to the overnight score.
D B Prasanth offered a semblance of a fight back while top scoring with a painstaking 47.
In their second essay, Hyderabad batsmen were more cautious and ended the day at a rather healthy 96 for the loss of two wickets to have an overall lead of 132 runs with eight wickets in hand.
Brief scores: Hyderabad 221 & 96 for 2 in 36 overs (DB Ravi Teja 37) vs Andhra 185 in 84.3 overs (DB Prasanth 47, D Shiva Kumar 39, Ashish Reddy 3/49, Pragyan Ojha 3/59)
