Hyderabad: Telananga cable network Multiple-System Operators (MSOs) has declared that they would not be cowed down under the pressure from the Centre to resume the telecast of two Telugu news channels. They have said they would telecast the channels in deference to the wishes of the people.

Earlier in the day, an emergency meeting of Telangana MSOs ended on a stormy note after the cable operators and journalists entered into a heated argument over the ban on two news channels –TV9 and ABN.

Media personnel regretted that the ban was affecting the employees as a majority of them hail from Telangana. The scribes staged protest against the attitude of the MSOs. With this, the operators left the venue.

The meeting was convened after the Centre took serious view of blocking of two news channels. The channels were blocked by the MSOs after the Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao alleged that the two channels were spreading lies about the Telangana government and trying to defame it.

The Union I&B Minister Prakash Jawadekar recently warned the Telangana MSOs after heated discussion over the issue in Parliament. The minister said the operators fail to telecast the news channels by Monday, their licences would be cancelled.

Earlier Kuldeep Sahani, honorary president said the Centre can’t dictate on telecast of channels and they were ready for a legal battle.
