It may be noted that land acquisition was stopped as farmers demanded compensation as per the New Land Acquisition Law. The officials expedited the process as the state government announced that priority will be given for underground mines.

Six days ago, officials invited the farmers for talks to RDO office at Mancherial. The farmers asked officials to provide a job for a person from each family, priority to locals in contract jobs and made other demands. The officials told the farmers that they are not authorized to provide jobs and a decision will be taken after consulting the CMD of SCCL.

The officials also announced that land would be procured as per the new law. RDO informed that Rs 3.69 lakh per acre would be paid in addition to price offered earlier. The villagers also demanded the SCCL management to take steps for the development of the villages.

The works on the mine are likely to start in October. Of the six opencast mines to be started by the SCCL this year, Kaspiet-2 Incline will be the first to start production. Officials heaved a sigh of relief as locals opposed as the opencast mines earlier.
