Hyderabad: The Telangana Congress party, which went into fire-fighting mode to save the party’s image, tried to downplay the episode. Congress Legislature Party leader K Jana Reddy, speaking to reporters after visiting Vamshi’s residence, said he met the MLA only to ascertain the facts related to their brawl at the wedding ceremony. Jana inquired as to the sequence of events that led to fist fight. Jana said he will also speak to Vishnuvardhan Reddy on Saturday.

Unconfirmed reports said the efforts made by Ponnala to broker peace between the two young leaders failed. This has forced Jana to come into the picture, party sources said. Although the disciplinary committee has not yet come into picture, the matter is likely to end up before committee chairman M Kodanda Reddy.

Vamshi is the Youth Congress president of Telangana unit and a former NSUI president. Vishnu is the son of the late P Janardhan Reddy, who was a well-known leader in the city and among poorer sections in particular. Earlier, the Madhapur police registered cases under 324 (Voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons or means), 506 (Criminal intimidation) and 342 (Wrongful confinement) of the IPC.

According to reports, Vamshichand Reddy came to the N-Convention Center to attend the marriage of ex-MLA Vishnuvardhan Reddy’s brother-in-law on Friday morning. When Vamsi entered the wedding hall, his gunmen apparently were clearing the crowd making way for him. Unknowingly, one of the gunmen pushed Vishnuvardhan Reddy and this led to the brawl. Snubbed with Vamsi's gunman’s attitude, Vishnu allegedly slapped the gunman and beaten him up. With this, Vamsi entered into an argument with Vishnu. Although eye-witnesses say that it was a minor scuffle initially, but egos said to have played a spoilsport.

Later Vishnu staged a protest outside Madhapur police station demanding police to take action against the MLA and his gunman. He also told police that Vamsi’s intention was to disturb the function, though not invited, and try to create a ruckus. However, ACP (Madhapur) M Ramana Kumar said police received complaints from both of them and investigating the matter thoroughly.
