Sharing her views with The Hans India on New Year celebrations, Vani Sheela, who is a lecturer at St Peter's Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences, expressed grief over extravagance during the celebrations even as lakhs of underprivileged were left to starve.
“According to the media reports, Rs70 crore were spent on liquor alone on December 31st night which is very painful. It is better not to telecast live programmes where people seen consuming alcohol to avoid at least youth get attracted to such habits,” she said.
Teachers and voluntary organisations should come forward to educate students in schools and colleges for having a meaningful and sober celebration on the eve of New Year, the lecturer suggested.
