Hyderabad: Despite stiff opposition from rival political parties on shifting of the Secretariat, the Telangana government has decided to go ahead with its proposal. Further, it earmarked Rs 200 crore for it in this year’s budget.Elaborating details in Assembly on Tuesday, Chief Minister K Chandrashekar said that the new building would be completed within one year. He vented his ire on parties opposing the government move.

Rao contended that this decision was taken purely keeping administrative convenience in mind. “Government offices are scattered around the city which is a big handicap for smooth functioning. Hence we decided to build a spacious Secretariat and various HoDs on single premises. Not only it would benefit the government, but even the general public would immensely benefit from it,” he said.

“Due to the spacious Jubilee Hall acting as the Telangana Legislative Council, the government is finding it difficult to host official meetings like collectors’ conferences. With no option, the government is choosing star hotels as venues for official meetings,” he lamented. It was for this reason government decided to build a Kalabharathi auditorium in NTR Grounds, he said.
