The Municipal Joint Action Committee (JAC) which met here on Tuesday appealed to the working classes to take part in the nationwide general strike to be held on September 2, protesting the anti-labour and pro-corporate decisions of the BJP-led NDA government at the Centre.

Hyderabad: The Municipal Joint Action Committee (JAC) which met here on Tuesday appealed to the working classes to take part in the nationwide general strike to be held on September 2, protesting the anti-labour and pro-corporate decisions of the BJP-led NDA government at the Centre.


The municipal JAC including seven unions which includes CITU, FTU, BMS, HMS, IFTU, and AITUC held a meeting at Sundarayya Vignana Kendram at Bagh Lingampally and decided to organise demonstrations and rallies from August 20 to August 30 across Telangana.Speaking to The Hans India, BMS leader Shankar said,


“The government is aggressively bringing sweeping changes to push the overwhelming majority of workers out of coverage of all labour laws and to drastically curb trade union rights.” Municipal leaders including AITUC leader Yesu Ratnam, CITU leader P Baskhar and other trade union leaders participated in the meeting.


Meanwhile, the 11 Central trade unions have declared a nationwide strike on September 2 that will cover public and private sectors including banking and railways. The strike call is against the labour policy of the Union government.
