Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao directed the TSGenco officials to focus on generating thermal power and not to depend on hydel power, instead purchase it from the open market.

In a review meeting held on Monday, the Chief Minister told the officials that due to the lack of inflows, the state cannot depend on hydel power either from Srisailam or Nagarjunasagar and meet the demand by generating more power from thermal stations. KCR was informed that the season’s highest demand of 153 million units was already met and that the state’s power requirement is being met without opting for load shedding, said TSGenco chairman and managing director D. Prabhakara Rao.

Mr Prabhakara Rao said that last year, 1,130 MU was generated whereas this year only 25 MU from hydel power units had been generated and added that from all the existing sources that includes purchases from open market, a maximum of 7,000 MW would be met. TSGenco is taking steps to meet the power demand with the precarious situation in Krishna Basin.
