Hyderabad: Protesting against the Central government’s decision to withdraw postal stamps of Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi, the Telangana Mahila Congress leaders burned the effigy of Prime Minister Narendra Modi at Nampally here on Saturday.

Led by Nerella Sharada, president of TPCC women’s wing, they took out a rally near Gandhi Bhavan and also resorted to sloganeering. They displayed postal stamps of the former Prime Ministers who ruled the country for almost three decades and were assassinated while being in power.

Speaking on the occasion, Sharada termed the decision of the NDA government as ‘intentional’ and involving ‘vendetta politics’. Describing this as a decision completely inspired by political interest, she warned the government of continuing the agitation in the coming days, till the government reversed its decision.

While other leaders, feared that if this kind of vendetta politics continued, the day would not be far when Mahatma Gandhi’s image would be removed from the currency notes in the country. The agitation programme was attended by TPCC spokesperson P Indira Shobhan, Hyderabad Mahila Congress president Rajani Reddy, Ranga Reddy district president Sudha Laxmi and several others.
