Rama Rajeshwari launched the helpline number for citizens of Tandur division to enable women, particularly school and college going grils, to text freely on the problems being faced by them at home, schools, college, neighbourhood, in transit, public places and workplaces. A fortnightly campaign on creating awareness among citizens on gender equality and prevention of crimes against women was launched by the Ranga Reddy police on Friday.

As per the District Crime Records Bureau, in the past four years as many as 1,459 women had encountered various kinds of violence, including sexual assaults against 150 women.

Addressing the gathering, the SP apprised them of the atrocities against girls and women. She said that often crimes against girls would go unreported or even unnoticed as they had no knowledge of whom to approach. But the helpline number would aid the women and girls in crisis to reach police and prevent the crime.

“Many the problems, be bullying, eve-teasing, molestation, sexual assault, domestic violence and suicidal thoughts, the citizens can reach the police for help on the helpline number. The citizens can send a text or WhatsApp on the helpline number to report the problem and women police would reach out to help them,” Rema Rajeshawari said.
