Hyderabad: The State Minorities Commission has urged the Telangana State government to fill thousands of vacancies by earmarking 4 per cent reservations for Minorities under BC-E category through legislative enactment.

The Commission, which conducted a detailed survey and enquiry into the job particulars and vacancy positions and also notified vacancies in various departments, came to conclusion that 10 departments have 16,458 vacancies in all.

However, under criteria of 4 per cent reservation (BC-E), these departments must be filled with 637 of candidates belonging to Minorities. The departments in which vacancies existed included Agriculture and Cooperation Department (20), Energy Department (103), Home Department (358), Transport, Roads & Buildings Department (12), Revenue Department (26), Panchayat Raj & Rural Development Department (18), Municipal Administration & Urban Development (47), Irrigation and CAD Department (16), Disaster Response & Fire Services (20) and Public Health & Municipal Engineering Department (17).

Speaking to media persons, the Commission Chairman Abid Rasool Khan said there were about 50 per cent vacancy positions as per the government cadre strength in most of the departments.

Because of these vacancies, the functioning of administration was hampered. “The Commission, while tabulating the vacancy position, has recommended the Telangana State government. It is submitted to the government to issue necessary directions to all the departments to implement the criteria of 4 per cent quota under BC-E,” said Abid Rasool Khan.
