The Telangana government has decided to erect a 125-foot statue of the architect of Indian Constitution Dr B R Ambedkar in Hyderabad. The foundation stone for the world’s tallest statue would be laid on April 14, which happens to be the 125th birth anniversary of Ambedkar.

Hyderabad: The Telangana government has decided to erect a 125-foot statue of the architect of Indian Constitution Dr B R Ambedkar in Hyderabad. The foundation stone for the world’s tallest statue would be laid on April 14, which happens to be the 125th birth anniversary of Ambedkar.

A committee headed by Deputy Chief Minister Kadiam Srihari has been constituted to find out suitable place to erect the statue in the city. While Hyderabad Collector B Rahul would be the convener of the committee, GHMC Mayor Bontu Rammohan, Deputy CM Mahmood Ali, Home Minister Nayani Narasimha Reddy, Energy Minister G Jagadish Reddy, TSPSC chairman G Chakrapani are among the committee members.

Chairing a review meeting with the ministers and officials at the camp office on the arrangements for the birth anniversary celebrations, the Chief Minister said the statue would be unveiled on the next birth anniversary of Ambedkar in 2017. The location would be called Ambedkar Square. KCR also instructed the committee to take steps for the distribution of three-acre land each to dalit families as promised by the TRS in its election manifesto in 2014.
