Hyderabad: The Central government is unlikely to accord clearance and sanction funds for the AIIMS for Telangana this year though the government has fulfilled all norms as it is under pressure from BJP ruled states like MP and Rajasthan to give them priority.

It may be mentioned here that under the AP Re-organisation Act, the UPA government had promised to set up AIIMS hospitals one each in AP and Telangana.

The officials of state Health and Medical department, who do not wish to be named, told The Hans India that the state government had fulfilled all the norms required to set up the AIIMS institution and the same was presented before Union ministry of health a few months ago.

On the instructions of the Centre, the TS government acquired 200 acres of land at the existing NIMS hospital established at Bibinagar in Nalgonda district, 35 km away from Hyderabad city.

All the clearances and no objection certificates from local bodies were also obtained and the same included in the proposals during the verification, the official said the TS government has planned to convert the AIIMS into a hub for making available high end medical treatment to all.

“Since the building was ready and is equipped with medical facilities, TS government requested the Union health ministry to approve it without any delay but it fell on deaf ears”, a senior official said the main obstacle for not getting nod was the pressure from BJP ruled state governments which want the Centre to give priority to their states first.

According sources, nearly 20 proposals from different states including the allies of BJP are pending before the Centre. BJP ruled states like Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Chattisgarh, Haryana and Goa have submitted proposals last year and have been waiting for response. The allies of BJP like the state governments in Punjab and Orissa are also insisting that priority be given to their proposals.

Even Andhra Pradesh for which the Centre had given its nod may also not get the required funds. AP government had already laid the foundation stone at Mangalagiri in December 2015. TRS MP from Nalgonda district told The Hans India that they had drawn the attention of the Centre and urged it to clear their proposal several times and also taken up the issue with the health ministry and PMO but so far, no positive response has been received.
