​Warangal: The first day of two-day Jangaon bandh called by Opposition parties was successful on Thursday.
Demanding to create Jangaon district, all Opposition parties here have called for a two-day bandh on Thursday and Friday.

The local traders and public responded to the bandh voluntarily as a result of which schools, colleges, commercial establishments were closed for the day.

The leaders of TDP, BJP, Congress and Left wing parties have taken out protest rallies and staged a massive rasta-roko at Jangaon bus stand area where they formed a human chain. People from different walks of life like students, advocates, labourers, members of self help groups have taken part in the dharna displaying placards along with the local JAC leaders.

They raised slogans against the State government and its decision to merge Jangaon and surrounding mandals into the proposed Yadadri district. During the rasta-roko, the movement of vehicular traffic was severely affected Hyderabad – Warangal highway.

Protests were held across the town where women played bathukamma on the roads, bike rallies taken out and dharna was staged in front of the Jangaon municipal office. Former MLA K Pratap Reddy joined the agitation expressing solidarity to protesting public.

Former TPCC president P Lakshmaiah complained that the formation of new districts was lacking scientific approach. He wrote a letter to Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao seeking to create the new districts in a scientific way.

Jangaon has all required facilities like educational institutions, hospitals, government offices and meets the guidelines of the State government has formulated in creating new districts. If Jangaon made as a district headquarters surrounding areas could be developed, he pointed out.
