Nizamabad: Deputy Inspector-General of Police Akun Sabharwal and Superintendent of Police Vishwa Prasad took part in the Haritha Haram programme held under the aegis of the district police department on Friday.

Speaking on the occasion, the two top police officers expressed happiness that so many people, irrespective of their religious backgrounds, were taking part in the Haritha-Haram and promoting communal amity. Trees do not have any religion and they give fruits, flowers and shade to everybody in the society, the DIG said.

The Superintendent of Police said that communal amity could be promoted through Haritha Haram. People belonging to various religious communities participated in the plantation drive programme at the police lines (Residential complex).

By involving people from various religions, the police wanted to promote secularism and peaceful coexistence among various communities in the district, by keeping aside their religious affiliations.

Members of various peace groups and children participated enthusiastically in the programme. They took a pledge that that would protect the saplings from withering way and take steps to expand the green cover in the district.
