Hyderabad: Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation mayor Bonthu Rammohan on Saturday instructed corporation officials to make Hyderabad, an open defecation free city.

Speaking at a daylong workshop organised MCHRD, the mayor asked civic body officials to focus on citizen grievances. He asked the officials to set up bio toilets at various locations in the city.

Rammohan directed officials to encourage citizens to construct domestic toilets and also hold extensive campaigns to explain the advantages of it. He said that the corporation would impose fine for open defecation and public urination from August.

The meeting has decided to identify suitable spots with 1000 square yards of land each for construction of community toilets to curb the open defecation and use eco friendly toilets. The GHMC should implement the works on the guidelines given by the Government of India under Swachh Bharath and try to get best rank, he said.

The GHMC mayor further said that the corporation would ban plastic bags less than 50 micron thickness and would impose fine on the violators from August 1.

He also informed that all the officials of GHMC to ensure survival of 100 per cent of the saplings planted.
The meeting also discussed the progress of ongoing special summary revision (SSR2016) electoral revision and updating of the faze sheets and Nazari Nakshas of electoral rolls.
