Mahbubnagar: Namratha Shirodkar, wife of super star Mahesh Babu took part in the Haritha Haram programme at Siddhapur village of Kothur mandal. Last year, inspired by his movie Srimanthudu, Mahesh had adopted Siddhapur village and initiated various development works in the village beginning with two free health check-up camps in which hundreds of school students participated.

Later, the primary school in the village was renovated and flooring and toilets built at a cost of Rs 30,000. In addition to this, a lab with 20 computers was established in the school. “We want to make Siddhapur a model village. Haritha Haram is a novel programme of tree plantation.

People in large numbers must take part in this programme. Trees will bring rain and save our environment,” opined Namratha. On the occasion, District Collector Dr T K Sridevi, praised the proactive participation of the people in the plantation drive.

She said districts like Adilabad, Warangal, and Khammam are receiving heavy rains because they have a huge forest cover. Similarly, she said, Mahbubnagar should also develop good green cover so that it brings rains and happiness to farmers.

She also advised the people of Siddhapur village to pay their taxes and ensure all the households construct individual latrines.
