Hyderabad: Osmania University staff and employees are fuming over the negligent and indifferent attitude of the State Government in resolving their problems even after achieving separate Telangana.
A Maha Dharna was staged at Osmania University here on Saturday by the members of various associations demanding solution to their long-standing and just demands.
The Members of OU NGOs (Staff) Association, OU Technical Staff Association, OU Employees Union and OU Time-scale and Contract employees participated in the maha dharna recalling the days of the struggle for separate Telangana.
They expressed regret that even after achieving the separate Telangana, their problems were not solved. They hoped that Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao would take cognizance of the gravity of their problems to find an amicable solution to them.
Addressing the public meeting after staging the maha dharna, the speakers of the associations demanded the State government to release Rs. 170 crore additional block grant immediate to the university apart from releasing balance block grant of Rs 32 crore for 2015-16.
They said that the government had sanctioned a block grant of Rs 238 crore for 2016-17 as against the requirement of Rs 402 crore making it difficult for the Osmania University to pay salaries and pension to the staff.
They regretted that the state government did not increase the block grant keeping in view the requirements of the university.
They also demanded that the recommendations of the 10th Pay Revision Commission to the time-scale employees should be implemented immediately. Reciting the deplorable condition of the time-scale and contract employees, they demanded immediate regularisation of their services.
Recalling the zeal of the university employees during the separate Telangana struggle, they said that they had hoped that their woes would come to an end after the state was formed. “But in reality, the woes have increased,” they rued.
Recalling that more than 100 retired employees were not paid retirement benefits and pensions who retired in the last one year, the employees demanded payment of pension and other benefits to the retired employees immediately.
Other demands included payment of compensation to the family members of university employee Ravinder who died of electric shock while on duty, abolition of LIC-linked pension and implementation of general pension scheme to the employees who worked between April 2001 and August 2004, implementation of contributory pension scheme for the employees appointed after September 2004 and promotion to the eligible employees working in the university.
The employees warned that they would intensify agitation in future if the government and the officials did not respond and solve their problems.
Osmania University employees’ leaders B Gnaneshwar, M Vinod Kumar, R Satyanarayana Reddy, B Rukkaiah, M Shankar, B Venkatesh and others participated in the maha dharna.
