Sangareddy: Tension prevailed in Zaheerabad and Narayankhed constituencies on Saturday following a suicide by a student belonging to Scheduled Tribes community.

Ravinder (20), a student in Sri Kethaki Sangameshwara DEd College in Jharasangam mandal of Zaheerabad constituency, committed suicide after he was allegedly beaten by the college principal. A 10-page suicide note, purportedly written by the student holding the principal responsible for his taking extreme step, was found.

According to sources, the parents of a girl studying in the same college had complained to the principal that he was troubling their daughter. The principal went to Ravinder’s class and started beating him black and blue, according to the students.

Ravinder’s cell phone was also snatched by the principal. Ravinder, in his purported suicide note, said the lecturers also had insulted him. Depressed over the insult meted out to him, Ravinder went back to Thurkapally Thanda, a hamlet under Narayankhed mandal, where his parents live.

On Friday night, he committed suicide by hanging. Students took to the streets on Saturday in Jharasangam mandal and students in Narayankhed gheraoed district Collector Ronald Rose, demanding action.
