Hyderabad: Justice A Ramalingeswara Rao of the High Court at Hyderabad has directed the State Government to constitute a fresh committee for identifying and shortlisting three suitable persons to be appointed as Vice-Chancellor of Jawaharlal Nehru Fine Arts University (JNFAU) in Hyderabad.

The judge was dealing with a petition filed by the varsity’s in-charge V-C professor P Padmavathy and in-charge Registrar B Srinivas Reddy. They contended that one of the nominees appointed to the committee by the state government, Ranjeev Acharya, was interfering with the affairs of the varsity though her position as Education Secretary did not provide her with so much power.

Petitioners’ counsel Jonnalagadda Sudheer complained that the IAS officer was biased against the varsity and objected to her presence in the committee. The counsel for the government also informed the court that the IAS officer was willing to forego her place in the committee.

The judge accordingly directed the government to appoint a fresh committee keeping the varsity appointed member Justice Swarup Reddy.
