Nizamabad: The thousands of saplings, which were planted during the last fortnight from July 8 to 22 under the prestigious plantation drive of the State government, the Haritha Haram, taken up with great fanfare is gradually fading out without yielding fruits.

Thousands of plants were withering away as they were not being watered regularly while others are being eaten up by the cattle.

The Chief Minister’s dream of planting 40 crore saplings during this season may not be realised with such sorry state of affairs.

The authorities have not made any fencing arrangements for the saplings. They were just getting thousands of saplings all of a sudden from various places but not distributed them.

A case in point is the Nagaram office (Zone II) of Nizamabad town where the plants have not been distributed and they started withering away at the office itself.

Even though the District Collector herself took special interest and participated personally overseeing the implementation, the desired result has not been achieved. She also directed them to take steps to protect the plants but to no avail.

The people here were hoping that the government does something to protect the plants till they grow and expand the green cover.
